— SERVICES · CAPABILITY & ASSURANCE TRANSFER
MASTER THE STANDARD. DECODE THE REGULATOR. BUILD IT YOURSELF.
When we build a model, teaching your team to own it is part of that work — never a separate invoice. This service is the larger job: giving your people genuine command of the standards their models must meet, a clear read on what the regulator actually expects, and the technical skill to build and challenge models themselves.

— THE PROBLEM
RUNNING A MODEL IS NOT THE SAME AS COMMANDING IT.
Standards like IFRS 17, IFRS 9, SAM and the IRB framework run to hundreds of pages of principle, not instruction — and the regulator states expectations, not recipes. So teams end up running models they can operate but do not fully command: able to produce the number, less able to explain the assumptions beneath it, defend it under challenge, or rebuild it when the person who did leaves. In a country where that quantitative skill is among the scarcest and most poachable there is, the model that only one person truly understands is a risk, not an asset.
And the standard has shifted. Regulators now expect the institution itself to demonstrate the capability to understand, build, and challenge its models — not merely a vendor who does it for them. The gap is rarely effort. It is command of the standard, a clear read of the regulator, and the technical craft to build. All three are trainable.
— WHAT WE DO
WE TEACH THE CAPABILITY, NOT THE DEPENDENCY.
We build genuine, in-house command of the standards, the regulator, and the technical craft — so your team can build, run, and defend its own models, across insurance, banking, mining, retail, and project finance.
Standards Training
Working command of the standards your models must meet — IFRS 17, IFRS 9 ECL, SAM and SCR, the IRB approach — taught as more than a compliance summary. The why beneath the what: what each standard requires, the judgement it demands, and how it applies to your own products and portfolios, so your team can reason from the standard rather than recite it.
Governance & Documentation Discipline
The standards, templates, and review habits that make every model your team builds consistent, auditable, and understandable by someone other than its author. We embed good practice as a habit rather than a heroic effort — the documentation discipline that lets a successor pick up a model and a regulator follow it.
Deciphering the Regulator
Regulators write in expectations, not instructions. We translate the principles-based language of Prudential Authority directives, guidance notes, and supervisory expectations into concrete requirements: what the regulator actually wants to see, what “good” looks like in a submission, and what will — and will not — survive an examination. The reading that turns a dense directive into a clear plan.
Validation & Effective-Challenge Capability
Building your second line’s ability to challenge models in-house: the effective-challenge skill set, the validation discipline, and the independence to use them. So the assurance a regulator expects is generated inside the institution — not bought, in perpetuity, from a firm outside it.
Technical Build Training
Hands-on training in constructing the models themselves — methodology, implementation, and the practical craft of building a PD/LGD engine, a CSM calculation, or a capital model — worked through on real builds, not toy examples. So your team learns to build and rebuild, not just to run what someone else left behind.
– HOW WE WORK
THE HANDOVER IS THE WHOLE POINT.
Most consulting is built to be repeated. This is built to end — deliberately, on a defined path from dependence to independence, with the exit as the deliverable.
01
Diagnose the gap honestly
We start with a health check: what does your team truly command versus merely operate? Where are the standards half-understood, the regulator’s expectations guessed at, the models no one on the current team could rebuild?
02
Teach the standard, not the summary
Real, working command of the standards your models must meet — the reasoning beneath the rules — so your team can apply them to new products and hard cases, not just cite them.
03
Decode the regulator
We translate principles-based expectations and Prudential Authority directives into concrete requirements: what to build, what to document, and what will hold up in an examination.
04
Train on the real build
Skill is built by building. Training is hands-on, on your own models and estate, until your team can construct and challenge a model — not just operate one.
05
Embed, measure, and step back
We make the capability stick in standards, documentation, and an in-house second line — then reduce our own involvement on purpose. Success is measured by how soon you no longer need us.
— WHO THIS IS FOR
FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO OWN IT AFTER WE LEAVE.
This work is for CROs and heads of model risk building a second line that can actually challenge; for chief actuaries and heads of actuarial function whose teams can run the models but could not rebuild or fully defend them; for CFOs and heads of function who have inherited a model no one currently understands; for teams preparing for a regulatory examination who need to read the regulator’s expectations correctly the first time; and for leaner institutions that face the same standard as the majors without a major’s headcount.
It spans insurance, banking, mining and resources, retail, and project finance and infrastructure — where a model has to be understood, built, and defended by the people who will still be there next year.
— THE ALETHEIA DIFFERENCE

THE BEST CONSULTANT IS THE ONE YOU STOP NEEDING.
When we build a model, teaching your team to own it is simply part of the engagement — never a line item, never a service we sell back to you. This work is the larger, harder job: giving your people command of the standards, the regulator, and the build, across an estate most of which we will never have touched.
Most firms are quietly built to keep you dependent — the engagement that never quite ends, the knowledge only they hold. We are built the other way. Our name means uncovering, and the most honest thing a consultant can do is make its own client independent. It also matters who does the teaching: you learn the standard from someone who has built to it, and you learn the regulator from someone who has read the directives and sat across from the expectations — actuarially trained, with the discipline of the audit chair and cross-sector depth in insurance, banking, and mining. Rigour, from a firm whose aim is to leave you able to stand on your own. It does not flatter. It illuminates — and then it hands you the light.
